Cannes-Premiered Japanese Film Secures North American Distribution

The critically acclaimed Japanese feature film, 'All the Lovers in the Night,' a compelling work showcased at this year's Cannes Film Festival, has successfully finalized distribution agreements across North America. Following its festival run, Bitters End, the sales agent, announced that Several Futures acquired the rights for the United States, while Ritual Films will distribute the film in Canada. Additionally, a deal was struck with Movies Matter for its release in Thailand, expanding its global footprint. These new agreements build upon previously secured distribution in other territories, including France, where Art House Films, a prior distributor for Sode's 'Aristocrats,' will handle its release, along with Spain, Bulgaria, Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

The film's narrative is adapted from the internationally celebrated novel by Mieko Kawakami. It centers on Fuyuko, a freelance proofreader leading a quiet, introspective life, whose routine is subtly transformed after she encounters Mitsutsuka, a high school physics teacher, at a community cultural center. Yukino Kishii portrays the character of Fuyuko, with Tadanobu Asano taking on the role of Mitsutsuka. Kawakami's source material has already made a significant impact on the literary scene, earning a spot on the U.S. National Book Critics Circle Award shortlist, a rare achievement for Japanese fiction.

Her earlier work, 'Aristocrats,' had its premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam before its successful theatrical release in France. Tadanobu Asano, known for his performance as Lord Kashigi Yabushige in the FX series 'Shōgun,' earned a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in Television and a Primetime Emmy nomination, making him the first Japanese actor to be recognized in that Emmy category.
