Parno Mittra Steps into Production with "The Music Teacher"

Bengali cinema icon Parno Mittra is set to make her producing debut with “The Music Teacher,” a British-Indian short film, starring Raima Sen. This marks a significant career evolution for Mittra, known for her extensive acting career spanning over two decades.

“The Music Teacher,” co-produced by Mittra’s new banner Unscripted Co and Tabernacle Street Films (U.K.), is an intimate narrative inspired by director Shrimoyee Chakraborty’s mother. The film is set in North Kolkata and explores how a young man battling depression finds solace and a path to recovery through a Rabindra Sangeet teacher. It celebrates Rabindra Sangeet, a genre of music integral to Bengali culture, and the dedicated educators who preserve this heritage, emphasizing themes of perseverance and interpersonal bonds.

Mittra expressed her vision for Unscripted Co, stating that "The Music Teacher" perfectly embodies the kind of authentic, emotionally resonant stories she aims to champion—stories that transcend cultural boundaries. Director Chakraborty described the film as a heartfelt tribute to her mother, Rabindra Sangeet, and Kolkata, highlighting its deeply personal nature. Co-producer Aarti Bajaj, acclaimed for her editing work on various notable films and series, also shared her excitement, noting the film’s profound human element and expressing her enthusiasm to help realize Chakraborty's artistic vision.
